Color Walks + French

Dates June 30th to July 25th
Level This course is intended for both pre-college students, aged 16+, and undergraduate students who have completed introductory studio and art history courses.

Paris is the city where modern color was invented. New synthetic pigments began to appear in the paintings of the Impressionists as early as 1860. With their interest in plein air painting and preference for urban scenes and modern life, the Impressionist painters used the space of the city in ways never before seen. In this course the city of Paris will serve as backdrop, classroom, and source material for a four-week intensive study of color. This course will give students an introduction to color theory and its applications within a historical and cultural context.

Drawing in Paris + French

Dates June 30th to July 25th
Level This course is intended for pre-college students, aged 16+, with possible hopes to apply to a college of art and design.

Drawing is the foundation of visual art. Most visual artists, designers, illustrators, architects, fashion designers, etc., still start their creative process with drawing. It is the creative seed, the beginning of all that follows. It is based on the human activity of the movement of the hand, eye and mind, each stimulating each other in the evolution of visual and conceptual ideas. Visual arts students need to learn the language of drawing. In the process they will learn how to see and how to communicate through drawing.
