Over the summer we hold a series of residentials for Year 12 students, for which applications open on Friday 16th May. All of the residentials are completely free, include accommodation and meals, and a variety of lectures and seminars with leading Cambridge academics.
The residentials offer students the opportunity to experience their chosen subjects at university level alongside likeminded people, whilst also allowing them to find out more Cambridge and the application process. We are particularly pleased to note that a number of last year’s participants were offered places at Trinity and other Cambridge colleges in this year’s admissions round.
*Sciences Residential – 26-27 June*
This residential is for for students interested in either the Biological Sciences (including Medicine), or Engineering. Students will attend a range of lectures and seminars on topics including tumour biology and cell development on the biological side, or informatics and a first year practical for prospective Engineers.
*Law Residential – 1-2 July*
Our third-annual Law residential is designed to tie in with the Faculty Open Day on July 2nd, allowing the students to experience the subject in different parts of the University. On the first day, the students will take part in legal workshops, led by Trinity’s Law Fellows, which will include writing their own statutes and a problem concering a certain kleptomaniac feline! There will also be a special guest from the legal world, details TBA closer to the date. Applications for this event close on Monday 19th May – so if you have any students who are interested, please encourage them to apply this weekend.
*English Residential – 10-11 July*
This is a new residential for students interested in studying English at university. Students will attend seminars and classes looking at literature, poetry, drama and practical criticism, led by Trinity’s English Fellows. There will also be the opportunity to spend time in the Faculty’s drama studio, and a creative writing session with the College’s Resident Poet.
*Choral Residential – 24-27 July*
This is a new residential, for academically-talented singers or organ players who have little or no formal experience of choral singing, especially for those who come from schools with no formal tradition of sending students for Choral or Organ Scholarships at Cambridge. Training will be given in sight reading, harmony and counterpoint, and participants will also have voice or organ coaching, culminating in a final performance alongside Trinity’s world-famous College choir. This residential is also open to Year 11 students, provided they are over 16 by 24th July.
More information and application forms for all of the residentials can be found on the Access at Trinity website here:
Applications for all of the residentials, apart from Law, will open this Friday (May 16th) and close in June.
