Summer Schools in Engineering and Physical Sciences
Headstart at Birmingham 2015 – Three-day summer school
The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences is hosting Headstart from 13–16 July 2015. As in 2014, it will be based on the theme of Power and Energy and is aimed at Year 12s (IB 1) who have performed well in their GCSEs (or equivalent), especially in science, technology engineering and maths (STEM) subjects.
Headstart, sponsored by the Engineering Development Trust, has the support of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Aeronautical Society, top level industries, several charities and the armed forces.
Students will get involved in lectures and lab projects in the areas of Chemical Engineering; Chemistry; Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering; Metallurgy and Materials, and Physics and Astronomy, as well as Nuclear Engineering/Science. An industrial visit will be arranged (in 2014 this was to Jaguar Land Rover) and evening activities such as bowling, sports and an end of course dinner are planned.
