Modern Languages at Univ – study day 2015

Are you in Year 12 (IB1) and interested in studying languages? Did you know you can pick up a language from scratch at Oxford University? On Friday 19 June University College, Oxford will be hosting a study day to give a taste of studying Russian and Czech at Oxford. This is for students who have never studied these languages before but who are bright and intellectually curious with an interest in studying languages. You must have a B language at Higher Level (A Level).

The day will be comprised of:

  • A lecture and discussion in Czech literature (Milan Kundera, The Unbearable Lightness of Being), Dr Zuzana Rihova
  • A lecture and discussion in Russian literature (Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Ivan Denisovich), Dr Polly Jones
  • A Russian language class, Dr Polly Jones

The day will be supported by current students reading Russian or Czech at Univ. By participating in the Study Day, students will have an intellectually stimulating experience that will give insight into what Modern Language students study at Oxford, how they study it, and why they study it.
There will also be a chance to have a tour of the college. A draft itinerary of the day can be found here.

For any questions about this study day, email Univ’s Schools Liaison and Access Officer.

All aspects of the study day will be free of charge.
