Sociology Masterclass at Aston University
Wednesday 9 December 1.15 pm – 3.15 pm
Celebrities are everywhere, not just in the media but in our imaginations as well. It’s practically impossible to find an area of social life that hasn’t been affected by celebrities. Yet celebrity culture is a relatively recent development, made possible by a global media, or more specifically, our engagement with the global media. In this session, we will be analysing the rise of celebrity culture and its effects, good and bad, on society and on us, using the case study of David Beckham.
Aston’s Masterclass Programme provides stimulating workshops from Aston University academics at the forefront of their subject area. These free sessions offer a great opportunity for Year 12 and 13 students to enrich their current studies and to discover more about studying a particular subject for Higher Education.
