New Degree in Integrated Design Engineering at the University of Bath

bathNew Degree in Integrated Design Engineering

To meet the ever-evolving design needs of industry, we are introducing our new Integrated Design (IDE) programme in October 2016. This design-focused programme will replace our successful Mechanical Engineering with Advanced Design & Innovation course.

This new programme addressed the needs of industry for creative, multidisciplinary design engineers who can integrate mechanical, electrical and software skills to develop innovative products. It will appeal to creative engineers with a hands-on approach to design and a practical interest in products, machines and systems.

The programme has a number of distinctive features:

  • The student cohort will work extensively together in design studios, labs and workshops.
  • Design professionals supplement our academic staff to give students professional advice, particular during the programme’s practical projects.
  • At the heart of the programme is a range of new units based on hands-on Design-Make-Test (DMT) activities, requiring the creation of working prototypes.

Graduate destinations range from design engineering and product development management positions within companies, to entrepreneurial start-up companies in the technology and innovation sectors. The Department also has a range of Alumni-funded innovation bursaries to help graduates develop their own ideas and businesses.

IDE is available as either a 4-year MEng degree, or a 5-year MEng with placement. Further details can be found on our website.
